I want my paintings to attract the viewer to feel or recognize some of the excitement, wonder, delight and difficulty that I felt when creating the pieces.

I attempt to get the viewer to reexamine the paint all or parts of the painting. Maybe I am trying to touch his spirit, to have him leave the painting feeling more connected with humanity.

If I have done any significant part of this, I have succeeded.

Vera's Mediums and subjects

Judycki paints mixed media dancers and figures in motion and dancers collages as well as more traditional watercolors. Her watercolors are primarily nature based.

She paints frozen swamps as well as botanicals including trumpet flowers, Japanese Magnolias, and shell gingers.

Most recently she has developed a series of tree bark/watercolor pieces. All of these--the trees, the bark and the flowers in her home area of Morgan City--are integral parts of the landscape of her home area as well as of New Orleans where she spends a good bit of time.

Judycki also paints abstracts, generally when she needs to try to make sense of or simply react to some occurrence that has touched her.

At such times she occasionally writes poetry.

Philosophy and Infulences

I admire the works of Degas, Matisse, Cezanne, and O'Keefe as well as many others. My taste is rather eclectic, however, as I enjoy Toulouse Lautrec and Kandinsky. In sculpture I am most taken by Rodin and Michelangelo.

"Works that speak to me include many elements but always these
three: color, movement, and texture. I love sculpting in dancers or flowers with molding paste or pumice and gesso."

Working with rice paper in paintings like her frozen swamps also delights her.
